BATON ROUGE, LA---The Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association held its annual meeting February 28-March 1, 2018 at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, La. The two-day meeting brought local, state and national stakeholders together to discuss the current state of the oil and gas industry and the vital role Louisiana plays in the world of energy.
Prominent industry, regulatory and legislative experts were among the speakers at the energy issues forums on Wednesday. Shell Oil’s Vice-President of Production, Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Rick Tallant headlined the industry luncheon following the general session on Thursday.
LMOGA also awarded two prestigious honors on Thursday. The Pelican Award was given in recognition of outstanding achievement in the industry and contributions to the State of Louisiana to Valero Energy Corporation and the Blue Heron Award, created to recognize an individual who has had an exceptional impact on the oil and gas industry, was presented to Don G. Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association.
Valero Energy Corporation is one of the largest employers in southeast Louisiana. Their St. Charles and Meraux refineries have a multi-million-dollar annual impact on the state’s economy. Valero is nationally recognized as one of the most community-minded companies in America and has earned honors as an energy sector leader in community service and investment. Valero has been an active member of LMOGA since 2003.
Briggs has been a prominent figure in Louisiana’s oil and gas industry for over 50 years. He spent the first half of his career working in the industry and eventually owning and operating his own oil and gas service company. He spent the latter half of his career as president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, a post he retired from earlier this year. His career spanned 10 Louisiana governors and he has navigated countless changes and challenges, fighting tirelessly for the best interests of the oil and gas industry and his beloved Louisiana.
